About Us

Based in the Natomas community of Sacramento, Adventure Christian Church is made up of all kinds of people, and we believe that they all matter to God. Whether you grew up going to church, or the whole “church thing” is new to you, we want you to feel as though you’ve come home when you walk through our doors.

Adventure Christian Church started under a tent on the lawn at Club Westlake on August 10, 2003. Over the years our church has grown from a gathering of a few faithful friends, to a community of over 1000 people who call Adventure their home.

From the tent in 2003 to our current gatherings at our home church, our mission has stayed the same. Bring Jesus’ hope to an imperfect world. God has richly blessed us with committed volunteers who freely give their time, talent, and treasure to serve those not only within in our walls but in the world around us.

We live an imperfect world with imperfect people, but there is hope in Jesus! At Adventure Christian Church, no one is expected to be perfect. In fact, we have a saying, “no perfect people allowed”. Instead, we are committed to helping each other grow so that we can become who God intended us to be. As a result, this leads to a life filled with HOPE and PURPOSE, compelling us to bring Jesus Hope to an imperfect world.

At Adventure Christian Church, we have committed ourselves to the teaching, practicing and defense of the following truths until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe in the one God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, as revealed in the Holy Bible and made known in Jesus Christ our Lord.

We believe that Jesus the divine Son became human, was born of a virgin, ministered in word and miracle, died for our sin, was raised bodily from the dead, ascended to God’s right hand and is coming again for his people.

We believe that the Holy Spirit is presently ministering through the Christian Community, empowering lives of godliness and service.

We believe that the Holy Bible is completely God-breathed, true in all its teaching, and the final authority for all matters of faith and practice.

We believe that Jesus Christ established his Church on earth to carry out his saving mission among all ethnic people groups and formed her to be One Holy People.

We believe in God’s saving grace that calls forth from all people: faith, repentance, confession, baptism, and new life and ministry through the Spirit.

Sr. Pastor

Scott is a Southern California boy who found a Southern Belle at Ozark Christian College in Joplin, Missouri. They married in 1988 and finished degrees at Ozark Christian College and Missouri Southern State University. Scott began as a youth pastor at Fairview Christian Church in Carthage, Missouri, then moved to Roseville in 1997 to serve Adventure Christian Church as Youth Pastor. After an amazing six years of growth in youth ministry, they planted Adventure Christian Church of North Natomas and began investing in this community. Melissa teaches 12th grade English at Inderkum High School where all their children attended. Their four boys, Max, Mark, Jackson, and Grant are mostly grown and serve alongside them in ministry. They love Natomas and see its diversity as both mission field and snapshot of the ``every tongue and tribe and nation`` that will will one day be heaven.

Zach Fox

Zach is a Southern California native, who loves basketball, pizza and working out in the gym. He's engaged to his beautiful fiancé Angelina and will be getting married in September. He grew up in the church and went on to attend Hope International University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Social Science with an emphasis in Psychology and minor in Biblical Studies. He then completed an internship with Eastside Christian Church in Anaheim, working with their youth program, and has served at Solid Ground Christian Fellowship in Redlands as the lead Youth Pastor. When asked why do you love working with teens, Zach says: “I get a chance to reach out and share Jesus with teenagers who are at a critical time in their life, where a positive influence can make a big difference…plus, it’s always fun hanging out with teens”. He is really excited to pursue his passion working with teens and joining Adventure Christian Church to build a strong youth program.

Chuck Howell

Director of Operations

Chuck spent 30 years in education, recently retiring in 2016. He married his high-school sweetheart and their first home was in Germany while in the Air Force. Chuck LOVES teenagers and has spent his career encouraging young people to be all God designed them to be. His favorites include anything that has to do with a ball (i.e., golf, pickleball, tennis, basketball….), his grandkids and kids. He is also an avid reader and if there is a spy novel out there, you can be pretty sure he has read it. Chuck’s perfect day would include being able to watch his grandchildren play anything, a hearty meal, some beach time and a good book , Currently Chuck is not only serving as an elder, but volunteers as director of operations for Adventure,

Administrative Assistant

Diane is considered the “Barbara Walters” of her family as she delights in meeting new people and discovering what makes them tick. Born and raised in Washington State (Go Hawks!) she and her husband, Chuck, moved to California in 2000 in order to be closer to their two delightful children. She loves to golf, play pickleball & tennis, travel and spend time with her kids and 8 amazing grandchildren. Diane’s idea of a perfect day would find her relaxing on a beautiful, sunny beach with a good read in her hands. She has worked as Pastor Scott’s administrative assistant for 3 years and they have made a pact to never utter the word “retirement”. If you were to ask her what she is passionate about, she would say her family, the Seattle Seahawks, anything peanut butter and chocolate, high school basketball, and making sure everyone at Adventure feels like they matter…to us and to God.

Annie Kaye

Children's Ministry Director

Originally from a little beach town in Southern California, Annie Kaye also lived on the Central Coast where she met her college sweetie, Jonny. Annie and Jonny have been married since 2003 and together they have two wonderful sons. Annie received her Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Child Development from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. She had a career in banking before she became a stay-at-home mom. As their boys have grown, God has opened up opportunities for Annie to serve women and children in ministry. She has been serving as a volunteer in Children’s Ministry with Adventure since 2014 and joined the staff team in 2016. Annie has a passion for God, people, and life! She loves kids and rockin’ out with them. She serves with an amazing group of volunteers that give their time and talents to the kids and families of Adventure. Annie loves the community feel of Natomas and is excited for what God’s doing in the families here.

It is a true saying that if someone wants to be an elder, he desires an honorable responsibility. For an elder must be a man whose life cannot be spoken against. He must be faithful to his wife. He must exhibit self-control, live wisely, and have a good reputation. He must enjoy having guests in his home and must be able to teach. He must not be a heavy drinker or be violent. He must be gentle, peace loving, and not one who loves money. He must manage his own family well, with children who respect and obey him. For if a man cannot manage his own household, how can he take care of God’s church?

1 Timothy 3:1-5, NLT

At Adventure Christian Church, we currently have six members of our MPW team. What is an MPW team? They are our Ministers of Prayer and the Word. Don’t you feel better knowing we have Prayer Warriors guiding our church? Please pray for our elders as they lead our church under God.

Chuck began serving on the MPW team (Ministers of Prayer and the Word) in 2016. He is honored to serve alongside these men in support of our pastor and church. Chuck believes wholeheartedly in Adventure’s mission of bringing Jesus’ hope to an imperfect world and desires to do his part in achieving this.

The Adventure Team considers themselves blessed to have Henry (Cal) McIver serving alongside them. Cal hails from British Columbia, Canada, where he served as a pastor for many years. He and his lovely wife, Vicki, have been married for 20 years and he is the father of 3 children. Currently Cal serves as chaplain at Mercy General Hospital, a position he is well-suited for! In Cal’s free time he enjoys walking, reading and photography. He and Vicki can also be seen working in their beautiful backyard. Cal states his “rusty” hobby is that of piano tuning. When asked why enjoys serving on Adventure’s MPW team he states “doing ministry with God’s family is his greatest privilege.” He also states that the best thing about Adventure is the pastor and the people. Cal and Vicki believe strongly in the power of prayer and have been instrumental in the formation of a team of dedicated prayer warriors at Adventure.
